Mosaic of Thought ~ Teaching Comprehension in a Reader's Workshop
This was our first selection for our online Professional Reading Group
and it's an outstanding book on developing a literature-based, workshop-oriented classroom. Ellin Keene writes in a very personal fashion, and uses real classrooms to illustrate how even kindergarten and first grade students can make connections to literature.  Highly recommended!

The Read-Aloud Handbook
Also available on audio cassette.

And With a Light Touch: Learning About Reading,
Writing, and Teaching With First Graders
by Carol Avery and Donald Graves
This is a terrific book on how to create an integrated-curriculum classroom, where children are immersed in meaningful tasks while learning to read and write.  Inspirational, easy to use, delightful to read, and grounded in literacy research.  Highly recommended!

Joyful Learning
Fisher describes her kindergarten classroom and how it evolved into an integrated curriculum environment.  I've used this book for many years in creating a classroom with developmentally-appropriate activities that meet the NAEYC guidelines.

Thinking and Learning Together:
Curriculum and Community in a Primary Classroom
The latest book from Bobbi Fisher on how to build a classroom
filled with thriving learners.  Excellent information.

My bookstore pages have lots of information on how I use the materials in my classroom, and on activities you can do with your students.  The thematic pages are complete unit resources, with lots of poems, songs, and links on each page.  Make yourself comfortable and take a look around!
